The Desire to Stay off Main Roads has yielded an extra 13 miles! |
Shore to Shore 150 becomes Shore to Shore 163 with Updated Route! Just thought I'd tack on a 1/2 marathon to the original route. With several map tools, I plotted countless times to get as close to the original "training run" distance of 150 miles. I am not willing to let go of the start/finish locations, nor will I stop at mile 150 and call it a (two) day(s). Lastly, I am an explorer at heart and wish to stay off the main roads to see some quieter areas of Michigan. The best I could come up with was a 160-ish mile course.
Here are a few neat things I added to this blog:
1) Spotwalla widget. It will update my postition every 5 minutes. Note the numbers do NOT represent miles, only the sequential pings from my iphone. I'll be playing around with it over next few days to see how it works.
2) Map My run widget. You can zoom in and out on the google map to get an idea of where I'll be running on July 17 & 18. Also, map my run has a cool visual tool that does a 3D satellite flyover of the route. And you can check out the elevation profile, satellite map, and any other info here
3) Garmin Tracker link tab. This is similar to Spotwalla, but gives more info about mileage splits, heart rate, elevation, etc. Very dependent on cell coverage, Garmin battery life, and can be finicky with any interruptions. Awesome if it works.
4) New website! Check out ultratrout.com! I'm a pharmacist, not a web-designer, so bear with me during these growing pains.
Thanks again to all who have donated to HDVCH!! I am glad we're all in this to keep our children safe and active.
Jim
